Most common mosquitoes you’ll see
There are more than 200 varieties of mosquitos in the U.S., but only 62 in Pennsylvania. The nost common varieties on south central PA are:

  1. Northern House Mosquito
    Most often discovered in urban areas, this pale brown mosquito is thought to transmit the most human cases of West Nile Virus in Pennsylvania.
  2. Asian Tiger Mosquito
    This species of mosquitoes can be identified by its bright white or silver. The female Asian tiger mosquito is a daytime feeder and can be an aggressive biter. As with most, mosquito varieties, the males do not bite.

Why do you have mosquitoes
Weather and pools of stagnant water are the greatest influencers in how severe mosquito populations are each year. Female mosquitoes lay eggs in collections of still water: anything that collects water, ornamental ponds, etc.
