Our number one goal as exterminators is to eliminate pests in the most efficient, environmentally conscious way when possible.

3 Common Problems

There are three common species of ant you’re most likely to see inside or outside in the Lancaster and York County areas.

1. The Carpenter Ant
These large black ants love making their nests in wood, especially damp floorboards, lumber, wooden countertops, and other wood surfaces. If the wood is damp, the carpenter ants will take it as a sign to move in. They’ll use their mandibles to remove bits of the wood to create their nests, and that can lead to significant damage to property, furniture, and more.

2. The Pavement Ant
If you’ve seen small reddish brown or black ants, they were probably pavement ants. These tiny brown ants make their homes in the cracks and crevices of pavements, stone landscape pavers, and even in the slab foundations of a building.

3. The Odorous House Ant
These are perhaps the most common ant to be found in households and buildings. These small ants range from dark brown to black in color and get their name from the unpleasant smell they emit when crushed.

Why do I have ants?

What sets our ant elimination services apart from the rest

There can be many reasons for a sudden presence of ants, some of which you might not be aware of. These reasons include:

It’s gotten warmer outside, which means the ants have come inside to scavenge for food and water.

You have a water leak or there’s moisture trapped somewhere and that’s provided the ants with a water source. There’s been a spill that hasn’t been properly cleaned up or food crumbs that have been forgotten about. Since ants are omnivores and attracted to sweet things, spilled sugary drinks and food are often to blame for the appearance of ants. You have pets, and the ants were attracted to their food and water dishes. To avoid this, pick up any loose food and regularly clean their bowls.

You have low-hanging tree branches and shrubs that are too close to the house. There are holes, gaps, or cracks in your windows and door screens.

Anyone can get ants, and the best way to prevent an ant infestation is to set up a quarterly plan today. A proactive approach is the best defense against insects and other common pests.
