Understanding why bees and wasps are attracted to certain areas can help you prevent an infestation.
There are a lot of things that can attract certain bees and wasps, but it’s important to be able to tell the difference between an infestation—insects making nests—versus a couple of bees or wasps being drawn to a new source of few or threat.
Many people associate bees and wasps with colony behavior and think that they all live together in hives. This isn’t actually true.
Take honeybees for example. When honey bees outgrow their current hive, a swarm will leave to locate a new home. While they search, they’ll swarm around branches, shrubs, and other objects anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days. So, a honey bee swarm may only indicate a temporary issue. Likewise, some bees are solitary and may not be present in great numbers, but could still prove problematic.
While bees and wasps are generally beneficial to the environment, their presence around populated and high-traffic areas can be a problem. Many bees sting and there are some who make their nests in unpainted and untreated wood, such as fencing or posts, thereby weakening structures and causing property damage.
TES can do an on-site inspection at no cost to you in order to determine the extent of the infestation and advise you on recommended treatment plans. If you’re only seeing bees or wasps around certain seasons or times of the year, our maintenance plans are also available.
